HELP FLORENCE GET TO THE ROUNDHOUSE

We need a Representative who understands our community, understands the mental health issues, the serious drug addiction and the reality of home insecurities that our community faces.

Can you  show your support and chip in what you can right now?  Any amount will make a big difference

About Florence Miera

Everyone deserves a fair chance to succeed. Our nation’s success is built on the founding principles of unlimited opportunity, quality education, commitment to hard work, and the freedom to pursue our dreams. I will fight each and every day to ensure that our community is advancing towards meeting these founding principles.

For Taos to flourish we need a safe community to call home.  I am ready and willing to dedicate my time, utilize my experience and give my love for our community to improve the lives of every family in Taos. I know the importance of family…  I have two grown children who are Dental Hygienist and three grandchildren who help me love deeply and encourage me to fight for their future.

My mom was the strongest woman I knew.  She reminded me often of the benefits of hard work and believing in yourself.  She raised five children on her own.  My dad died when I was a year and seven months leaving my mom to raise a family alone.

Many families are struggling right now, due to COVID, Grief and loss, Depression and anxiety… let’s not forget those who have lost a loved one.   Let’s support Taos Families…all of them!

It's scary to put yourself out here and run for office - knowing I can't do it alone and I need the help of my community to be successful, not only in the election but serving as our representative.

I owe a lot to our community and I look forward to being able to give back and benefit Taos in the years ahead.  I ask for your help, your vote, your friendship and your guidance.  Together we can make a difference.

Thank you

Education

This particular issue has been increasingly gaining coverage all over the world. Why exactly? It is an issue that needs to be addressed, and heavily discussed among politicians, lobbyists, and congressmen alike. I know the importance of education, my grandmother, Margarita Anaya had to quit school at age 10 when her mother died. She encouraged me to complete mine. I graduated from UNM- Taos with AA in Human Services, I have a BA in Social Work and an MA in Community Organizing and Administrative Practices from New Mexico Highlands University.  I will push for change, and support all students to have a brighter future.

The Environment

I am a fellow with Environmental Education of New Mexico. Our goal is to serve every kid, every day, every way.  Focusing on outdoor learning, farming, harvesting, learning about the water shed, acequias, land and environmental issue.
As your state representative, i will make sure the students, farmers, land and cattle, acequia associations work together to make Taos and District 42 a better place to live.  Creating job opportunities for the youth, giving back to the land by harvesting it and feeding the families of New Mexico, supporting economic growth by helping our ranchers and farmers to keep their businesses local.

Hands

Mental Health Care - Helping Hands

I have worked in many agencies over the past 20 years and most of the work has been trauma related.

Over the years, I have worked with The State of NM, CYFD investigator, Community Against Violence, TMS Exceptional Program, I worked with constituent services at Governor Richardson’s office while a student; this fueled my passion for people, I was able to see the impact on the most needy with my support from the top down approach (macro).  I also worked the crime policy advisor as a student intern for one year and was able to support the most vulnerable population in our state.

My current employment allows me to give my students and their families a voice in the school systems, I am most proud of the accomplishments of the students who have graduated despite their home situations.

As State Representative my goal is to continue to support  students, families and our community to help the families help themselves.  My goal is to meet like- minded people with a passion to see other grow and be the best they can be.

In the Classroom

Education

I have worked at Taos Municipal Schools for over 15 years, I understand the importance of education.  I support Early Education, Behavioral Education and  Home Visiting Programs.  As a professor of UNM - Taos, I understand the need to support the young adults with hands on programs, skill building opportunities and on the job training.  I will continue to work with The Department of Labor to employ our families to help the be self sufficient.
